Self Reflection: Do You Really Know Yourself?

This past week, Brittany and the team were in Orange Beach for the Winter Mastermind Retreat! Lives were being changed, mindsets were formed, and passion has been ignited to pursue their dream photography businesses. When Brittany is gone, it’s really quiet during the day at my house. The kids are at school (can I get an AMEN lol!!) and I’m left alone to my own thoughts. I really miss Brittany when she’s gone, but I enjoy self reflection, thinking about who Thomas is, and what’s my purpose. Today I wanted to dive into the topic of “Do You Really Know Yourself”.

When I’m alone in my house, I have Pandora radio Bethel music blaring in the background while I’m working to serve you guys. Listening to the gospel through music all day really makes me take a step back and examine who Thomas Bruce really is and do some serious self reflection. Am I fulfilling my true purpose in life? I believe that my purpose here on this Earth is to love my God with all my heart/mind/soul, to love my neighbor as myself, and to spread the Good News of the Gospel. To be honest, I fall short on the daily living out what I’m called to do. Most of the time, we become the person everyone else wants us to be. You have so many expectations placed on you whether it’s from your spouse, your kids, your boss, your family, your friends….it can be exhausting wearing so many different hats trying to be the person everyone else expects you to be.

We ALL crave to be known, right?

I’m not saying we all want to be famous or popular. We all desire to be noticed, appreciated, loved, and cherished. Ever since we were young children, we’ve always craved attention, acceptance, affection, and affirmation from our parents and friends. You may have learned throughout life that people let you down, relationships get broken, and people often take advantage of you. All these events lead to you losing your identity, forgetting who you really are, questioning if you have any worth. Rest assured, no matter what happens in your life you are known by God! How cool is that? The One who created all that is in existence knows you and loves you! No matter what, God never turns his back on you. So who are you? You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God, equipped with the power of His spirit to take on life and live life abundantly.

I want to encourage you this week to take time to TRULY do some self reflection.

Have you been the person someone else wants you to be or are you the person God has called you to be? Even if faith isn’t your thing, I encourage you to take the time to write down who you desire to be. I want each of you to look in the mirror, I know it sounds weird. But, when you see your own reflection you see the real you. Are you happy? Are where you want to be in your life? If not, take steps today to make the changes needed to live out your real purpose and be the person God has created you to be!
